SAUNA CIRCLE ESTABLISHED
The Finnish sauna operators have established 31st August a 2019 a Sauna Circle, a network of Sauna societies and NGOs, which aims to increase the cooperation of the sauna community and promote the vitality of sauna traditions.
In March 2019, the Ministry of Education and Culture has submitted a file on “Sauna culture in Finland” to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to UNESCO. The file was prepared by the Finnish Sauna Society in cooperation with many Sauna societies and the Finnish Heritage Agency. The decision on the inscription is expected in December 2020.
As part of the application process, the sauna community has identified a series of safeguarding measures designed to support the vitality of the sauna traditions. The Sauna Circle was established to take these initiatives further.
Sauna Circle is a community of sauna operators in Finland whose goal is to strengthen cooperation between the sauna community and to continue the discussion on the current state and future of sauna culture in Finland. The aim is also to reflect and develop the sauna tradition from the perspective of sustainable development.
All Sauna communities in Finland are welcome to join the Sauna Circle.
